If you want to get an "off the mainland experience" in Belize, the Barefoot Caye Caulker Hotel may be for you. Located off the coast on Caye Caulker, this hotel is a hop-skip-and-jump from the beach. That said, it has its own outdoor pool for those who are less inclined to get sand up their shorts. The hotel got our attention not just for being a Gold Star Hotel, but also for some of the little extras like exterior entrances to rooms, airport transportation by request, and the option of a kitchenette for the larger suites. The hotel does have a restaurant and bar/lounge although it is nearby to other restaurants. Finally, the newly remodeled rooms are relatively inexpensive so you can stay longer if there's time.
