Let the Hotel Absorb the Controversy

Are you hosting a family event, and you want attendees to wear masks, have everyone test before attending, or take other safety measures — but you don't want to be the one to tell them what they have to do?

Hotels are often happy to set a stricter policy for your banquet hall or similar, even if they aren't quite prepared for the request. Just ask them to print up signs that say something like "Masks required in banquet hall before and after eating." Before the event, when you write relatives, just tell them about the hotel policy — that, yes, you quietly requested, but now it is the policy.  Hopefully this will help relatives not feel like mask-wearing is a battle of wills, but simply a part of attendance.
